Mute Monday: Author

“Deliver me from Swedish furniture.
Deliver me from clever art . . .
. . . May I never be complete.
May I never be content.
May I never be perfect.”

I'm sooooo looking for some new authors right now. "May I never be complete. May I never be content. May I never be perfect." this could be my new mantra. I'll wait to see what you tell K9 to start with.

Wally Lamb just published a new book and I'm going to buy that for a plane trip I have coming up.

K9: Fight Club. DEFINITELY Fight Club. Then Lullaby, then Choke. Then go on to Haunted, a darkly twisted retelling of The Canterbury Tales.

Boxer: I read something by Wally Lamb many years ago but don't remember what it was. Chuckie P. lives in your parts, I think.

Looked him up. Doesn't seem like my kind of stuff. Do you participate in his "Writer's Workshop" at his website? Seems like a clever use of the innerwebs.

Happy Mute Monday!

I don't know this author. Is that awesome quote your favorite? Er, it may be foolish to mention but there are actually a few pieces of Swedish furniture I admire....but a housefull? HORRORS!

I never heard of this author but I've seen fight club. What a twisted, complex movie that was. I may take your recommendation on Haunted because I loved the Canterbury Tales.

I always wondered what he looked like. Looking up such things is pretty low on my list though. "Never be perfect"? That's my goal, if I know I can't be right now. I haven't read "Fight Club", as I heard it wasn't as... manly as the movie makes it out to be. I like the movie enough that I don't want to ruin it with things which ruin such things, uhrm, for men. However, now I know what he looks like. And, I am glad you have a favored!

Happy Mute Monday?

I don't know what to make of that quote. I don't know the author but I love IKEA. I love everything about IKEA. Most of their furniture is great, and I love their restaurant! maybe I should get a job at IKEA? and check out Chuck too.

I have read four of Chucky's works of fucked-upedness. He is brilliantly unique. I will never forget the 'Guts' story.

Troll: No, I don't. But it looks interesting, thanks!

Fishy: Actually, I adore anything Scandinavian and/or Mid Century modern-designed. What CP does is use what we hold dear at the material level to postulate what that means for our modern mindset. Since I'm fascinated by the interplay between the material and the spiritual, I like Chuck.

Vixen: Thanks!

Buzz & Doom: Fight Club is one of my favorite movies and I saw it before I read the book. Didn't ruin it for me.

Emma: Ja, Chuck does a whole riff on IKEA in Fight Club. Again, though, think metaphorical, not literal.

Aunty: He can be disgusting and horrific and then at the same time extremely poetic and pointed. A complicated man and writer. One of his quotes: "The thing I love to do in fiction is to create a social model . . . and fill it with characters. And then run the model and see where it breaks down."

WTWA: No, I don't think it's a story many men would forget! It's certainly one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. But also very, very funny.

Okay, he's on my reading list now. I haven't read anything by him so am willing to give him a try! Happy MM. Love it when someone is passionate about an author!
