American Idiots

How can some people be so desperate to seek meaning that they loose all sense of reason, all sense of self?

Then again, I'm not surprised. About the only thing it seems we humans excel at these days is a mindless ability to happily drink the Kool-Aide in one form or another.

they paid nearly 10K for these weekends. WTF? And the woman who died were intelligent woman, or maybe they weren't. I love steam baths and there is place near my gym that I can rent for an hour (private) I can only stay in for maybe 10-15 minutes and then I'm out drinking water, resting. I never use the 60 minutes, so when I heard they were in that heat for 2 hours with no water I was horrified. What was missing from their lives that required them to give over their brains? Spiritual awakening doesn't need to come from a quaack with a tent.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Without God in their lives, people will believe in anything at all to try to fill the void.

I think I need to go to Sedona and consult the vortex.

I haven't read up on this issue like I should to leave a comment here ... but totally agree with you. Comparative negligence -- is the operator of the facility at fault if the people who participate are complete idiots?

Boxer: One could certainly make the argument that there are plenty of people – athletes, entrepreneurs – who push their physical, emotional, and spiritual limits to the edge. I have the impulse myself but also know there is a difference between what works and what doesn't. Say I decide to climb Everest. Before doing so, I will have prepared my body and mind to its fullest ability. I will accept the risk (dying) because the reward (achieving the top) is so great. But swallowing this kind of pill, with no proof whatsoever of the benefits and with little preparation (in other words, these folks didn't go in enlightened or strengthened, they went in seeking to miraculously achieve enlightenment and strength), well that's just called First Class A-Number One Dumb-assedness.

Gnome: I'm beginning to believe that nothing sells like snake oil these days. Not even sex.

Pam: Yup. Whose to blame here? The pusher or the addict?

Good evening Moi,

They got what they paid for, a spiritual experience. A person has to know they're own limitations.

Seeking this sort of quackery foolish at best. Just because they have money doesn't mean they have any brains. Sorry but I have little sympathy for any of the parties involved.

a tab of blotter acid in downtown atlanta wouldve been cheaper and safer and probably with far better altered state experience
