Good News/Bad News

The good news:

To quote CNN.com:

WASHINGTON
(CNN) -- Republican support for President Bush's Iraq war policy suffered a significant crack Monday evening when Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana urged the president to change course in Iraq "very soon."

The well-respected GOP voice on foreign affairs took to the Senate floor to urge Bush to avoid further damage to America's military readiness and long-term national security.

"Our course in Iraq has lost contact with our vital national security interests in the Middle East and beyond. Our continuing absorption with military activities in Iraq is limiting our diplomatic assertiveness there and elsewhere in the world," he said.

Thanks for not towing the party line, dude.

The bad news:

Dozens of Rodeo Drive boutique owners breathed a collective sigh of relief this morning, as Paris Hilton is back on the streets and ready to shop. Boutique owner children everywhere rejoiced as well, since it looks like they will be able to go to the Ivy League colleges of their choice after all.

Is it just me who thinks this, but is this poor child's problem not that she's rich and spoiled rotten but that she's mega-retarded and the family just doesn't go there?

oh and Richard "what? I'm up for re-election?" Loogie - chasing votes? The hell you say.

So glad you found me! Maybe I'll run into on the trail real soon now, ya hear?

Hey, Dread! Oh yeah, that will be me on any given Saturday or Sunday morning from now until August 5th, slooowwwlly moving up that dratted two miles of asphalt that some wise-ass race coordinator decided was the "proper" start to La Luz. What is that about?

I just want you to know that I told my mother that you described Paris Hilton as "mega-retarded" and we both laughed our asses off.

Thanks, applegal. ;-)

All mommies love their babies - no matter the degree of dumb-ass-tique. ; )

I just looked at that picture again.

That's her, right?

She looks like, 400 times better with no makeup. She looks like a real person.

Yeah, she does look kinda wistful and young and sweet and not so mega-ho, doesn't she? But she still strutted out of there like she was on Zac Posen's runway, the ding.

Dizzy, I know mommies wuv dey's widdle babies no matter what, but after a while, like, when they're all grown up, you gotta go, "Whoa, chica, get some class."

The mothers of some species eat their young. That's all I'm saying.

It's rumored her parents were going to lock her in the attic, but reconsidered when they saw how she blended in quite nicely with the morons around her.

i wonder how "popular" Paris, L Lohan, B Spears et al. would be if they were actually attractive. go to the food court at any metropolitan-area mall anywhere in america, and you'll find dozens of twenty-somethings who are friendlier to the camera than this ilk.

and that might be the point.

and I agree . . . the best pix of Paris are those where she's not trying so hard. she's most fetching (or as much as possible) in the videos that the Smoking Gun posted the day after the Larry King interview, where she says she never did drugs. Of course, the Smoking Gun, true to its name, posted videos of her smoking hash, talking to her offscreen boy friend about being high . . . and she looks almost, well, normal.
