i guess i was like a 9th grader or so. I can remember being at the carnival thing on the rides where they piped in the current hits at mega volume...

and as an adult, the entire album "burning in the sun" by blue merle (no longer a band but one of my fave albums ever)

wilco/sun volt / whiskeytown all summer to me

beach boys: wouldnt it be nice

and then there was this song i remember when i was a wee tot at the beach and i can still hear it cracklin over a transistor radio:

"the morning sun is rising like a red rubber ball. do do dooo dooo doo doo////

you probably werent born yet moi.

Troll: Not something by Wagner, eh?

Boxer: Boo to dark and wind! I always liked La Bamba. It gets a lot of radio play around here.

lx: Another one of those sit outside and sip on a cocktail in an eyelet summer dress songs.

K9: Not sure, but I think they're still around. If I were running for president, "Cannonball" would be my campaign song: "I'll be your whatever you want / the bong in this reggae song . . . "

And "Rock the Boat" is a most awesome tune.

(CRAAAAAZY memories with this one!)

In the Summertime (?) by Mungo Jerry. If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal. If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel.

OR
Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful. Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck feeling dirty and gritty.

Me and my running buddies always had a "song of the summer" back in the day. Might have been a dance club song, or one of the ones that is on the radio everytime you start the car.

OOOOh, what about Girls Just Want to Have Fun????

P.S. I remember the Red Rubber Ball song very well.

"Band of Gold," for personal reasons.

After that, I'd echo Pam's first two.

Pam: If I think back to all my summers, I could do the same thing. Sounds like a good topic for a mix tape! Cyndi's anthem has pretty much been mine my entire life :o) "Oh daddy, please, we're not the fortunate ones . . . " The hell you say?

lx: Oooo, more terrific surf rock! You know, I'm not much of a fan of most Quentin Tarantino movies, but I do have to give him props for the way his films incorporate great early American pop music.

Czar: "Summer in the City" is a great song. I had to Google Mungo's "Summertime."
