Unfortunately I am still walking a mile for this particular addiction but now hubby has lost his job I will have to make a monumental effort to give them up.
Great old ads but then of course they would be old as it's been many years since they have been allowed to advertise cancer sticks, or at least here anyway.
Happy MM. Stick to shoes Moi, they're much better for you.
I was totally expecting to see shoes here! But love the old Ciggie ads, even if I hate the product. If you haven't quit, quit now. Not smoking is how I rebelled in my family.
Now I know my parents started smoking. It looks so fun and glamourous! Congrats on quitting, and trading a truly unhealthy habit for your shoe habit..... much better for you, but probably more expensive.
I quite 8 years, six months, five days and 32 seconds ago. And I'm pissed 100 percent of the time that I did. I LOVED to smoke. But it's bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. So, yeah, shoes . . .
Moi, Went visiting in the ad archives did ya? Lord only knows how many people took up smoking to be cool, or sexy, or hip, or accepted ... only to find themselves addicted.
Want a free nicotine fix, just walk in front of a Starbucks where the smokers sit. Every time I go past I feel as though I went through a whole carton.
Im with Wendy! They seem so much worse when someone you love uses them. But I can still appreciate the glamour of those old ads... although I always preferred the cigar and pipe tobacco ones. St Bruno Roughcut...
Used to be that if you drew concentric circles around the areas of elementary schools, incidence of tobacco billboard advertising increased the closer you got to the schools. Something to think about.
For me, seeing an attractive woman smoke has about the same effect as seeing her engage in coprophagy (as William Burroughs referred to it, "the redundant vice").
A common guage of the biddability and general good nature of a dog is to blow forcefully in its face. If it doesn't freak out or slink away, it's most likely not only highly stable, but also easily trainable.
funny how having babies put an end to that (and a beginning to so many other things). there are way more fun and productive things to be addicted to - but never say never, eh?
I'd quit smoking for 3 years when I met a young woman who smoked. She had a small place just off the beach (Chick's Bech) on the Chesapeake bay. Sun tan lotion, sand in the bed and long drags off a cigarette with a lithe young body pressed next to mine.... There are some bad habits I wish I could go back to.

I keep looking for all the subliminal messeges they used to hide in advertisements.
Marlboros were originally designed and marketed for women.
I love the line; "Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere". LMAO,That just slays me!
Hmmmm. I'm also posting a cigarette addiction. Only it's one of many.
Stay tuned, though, mine won't be up until Monday proper. ;-) At least in the Eastern timezone of the U.S.
Happy MM
I HATE CIGARETTES. I especially hate that my 20-year-old daughter smokes. But, yeah, Troll is right. Tobacco IS sexy. At least, the ads are. Were.

so weird to see old movies--smoked more than they spoke.

"Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere" really only applies to the blowback ...you'll be so stoned you'll follow him anywhere!
LOVE the old cigarette ads. Great take on the theme. :)
Happy Monday!

I have laid bare my personal addiction at the Poond.

These ads are fab. But I like your quote better. I'd walk anywhere for great shoes.
Happy MM.

fun to see these old ads i remember virginia slims big time.

Now if the side-effects of tobacco was to make you look like any of those poster girls, I'd have five ciggies in each hand.
Shame about the wrinkles and the cat's arse mouth. And the teeth turning yellow-grey and dropping out - kind of rains on the parade.
Congrats on quitting and staying strong.
