The Mountains and Moi

"It isn't the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it's the pebble in your shoe." – Muhammad Ali

Usually, come right about now, my young girl's fancy turns to the latest collection of spring footwear and flirty skirts. But the IRS is holding Da Shoe Fund hostage, so instead, I am thinking of mountains.

Specifically:

1. Where hopefully in another few months, lottery willing, I will once again run a gloriously crap time in the 43rd Annual La Luz Trail Run.

And:

2. Which should be fully clear of snow by, oh, July, giving us a small window of opportunity to hike it before the monsoon season starts in preparation for the possibility of:

3. Which isn't Everest. No, it's better. It's Africa.

I'm confuzzled. You're going to the continent of Africa? Or there's a mountain in New Mexico called "Africa"?

Troll: No, I'm going to Africa. Maybe. If the natives cooperate and not shoot each other up.

She: I'm hoping to beat my time by at LEAST 15 seconds per mile this time :o)

That is one of my favorite quotes of all time.

And, I'm not kidding when I say that, if you'll have us someday, we would love to visit you in NM. Though, I think my husband would then want to move there.

Though, I think it's going to be a few (many) years before the kids are old enough to swim with the sharks in Africa!

AB: Yes, we're hoping that A. We can find the perfect backpack and B. The natives quit being restless.

Thursday: I know, I'm going to be one of those pests and make everyone who goes on the trip read the story. You know, ambiance and all that :o)

AB Again: I knew you would! I've had it in my diary for years . . .

Meghan: Ooo yes, come visit – anytime! We'll run around like happy idiots snapping photos!

nyd: Thank you! Now, it's in the Lottery Gods' hands.

A challenge for the undaunted baker!

1) Perfect Derby Pie (kentucky derby)

2) Perfect CrabCakes. (preakness stakes)

3) Something NewYorkish in honor of the Belmont Stakes.

You could invent new drinks for all three as well, I guess. They currently all have an "official" drink but they suck.

Africa or shoes? Hmm. Wouldn't the shoes be a little cheaper?

Fabulous scenery though - I'd be inclined to just look at it reclining in a deckchair with a pina colada and a straw hat than run up it!

Troll: I accept the challenge and will post in the Baking Blob in a day or so. I got an idear . . .

Poet: Yeah, see, I want the new shoes NOW, and Africa is in the future. So I console myself with the thought that something more really real than the new Christian Louboutin African peep toes (http://awomanandhershoes.blogspot.com/2008
/03/christian-louboutin-african-print-
high.html) is in store por Moi.

Oh I am envious of this; my ability to run on anything but a treadmill is restricted thanks to damaged knees but this looks glorious.

Ms R: I teeter on the edge of wobbly knees myself. Holding breath . . .
