Dog Day

You ever meet someone who is so incredibly charming, they seem to fill the air with something akin to champagne bubbles, drawing people into their orbit with a gravitational pull as strong the influence of the moon over the tides?

That's my dog Maddie.

In a crowd of 150 people and a good half dozen volunteers, all of whom were preoccupied with organizing their gear, staying warm, energizing up, and directing participants, she still managed to snag the kind of attention that makes grown people stop dead in their tracks and commence to baby talking. Of course, Maddie responds in kind, gluing herself to people's sides, tilting her head upwards at a flirtatious slant, and liquifying their hearts with her big brown eyes.

So about an hour later it wasn't my name the timer called when I crossed the finish line, but "Here comes Maddie's mom!"

The little slut.

Eggy: I had carne adovada tamales with red chile and black beans instead. S.B. had the pancakes, though, and guess what? They were thin! Boo.

Chickory: Maddie would be honored to be cribbed again :o) As for Ivan, he's an even smoother operator in crowds, but it was below freezing up there and very windy. He's much older and not as furry, plus S.B. wanted to hike while I was running, and it's harder with two dogs on lead who go at different speeds.

Boxer: I forgot to stop my Garmin when I crossed the finish, but I think I edged in a few seconds over an hour. It was HARD. A la, la, la, la, la downhill for the first 1.25 miles; then a relentless uphill on a mostly skinny, sloped path on the return.

Troll: What is it Mark Twain said? I hope to one day be as famous as my dog :o)

What a face! A-dorable! This is exactly the kind of dog I'd love to have, if a dog was in my future. I think she will be a great play-mate for Sterling when he comes to live at your house.

P.S. Tamales = gimme.

Pam: Tamales for Sterling? Deal!

Congratulations on that finish line accomplishment!
Ummm, even champagne bubble sluts need Mom's.
Maddie does look extremely fetching, smart and,
dare I mention, stylish????

Fishy: The groomer gives her dogs a different colored banana every time they go in. Very cute. Even if Maddie's lasts only for a couple weeks before getting really dirty.

Does Maddie have a set of snow shoes too? And how did yours work out?

I'm use to being called The Boy's Dad or the Pudge's Dad. Even though odds are good (because they prove it to me every day) that I'm not. I usually correct them and say "alleged Dad".

Buzz: Alleged? That's great. Snowshoes are super. Operator, not so much. I'm not used to running in snowshoes so I did fine on the flat parts but when the trail narrowed and angled, I wasted a lot of time keeping myself from falling off. More practice will solve that.

Tee hee.

Wish I were a heartbreaker like Maddie.

Oh my God, how funny! Dontcha love when your critters flirt and play with strangers and act like they never get any love at home? I "heart" Maddie too!

Kudos for doing the race, dear, and trying out the new shoes. And also for ordering tamales instead of the thin (boo!) panacakes! xo
