Happy Fourth of July

At the end of the 1787 Constitutional Convention, as Benjamin Franklin was leaving Independence hall, one of Philadelphia's most prominent matrons walked up and asked him:

"Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"

Franklin responded,"A republic. If you can keep it."

It is more important than ever to "keep" it. Maybe the scare of
government taking over the net will catapult the youngest voters into paying attention.
God Bless America Always!

I guess Blogger ate my comment to you from yesterday -- it was something about what ultimately happened to the original signers of the Declaration of Independence ... can't remember it all now.

Meanwhile, happy 4th, and theme for haiku this week is "Summertime and the living is easy"

Hey, Moi! I saw elsewhere that you thought your blueberries overwhelmed the peaches in your weekend pie? My friend Cindie's peach and blueberry is one of her most famous and beloved pies, and I don't recall the blueberries being that overwhelming. For what it's worth, she made some straight blueberry pies this weekend, to rave reviews, and she personally attributed them to her use of some imported straight vanilla rather than her usual vanilla extract.

Happy baking!

I spent July 4 watching a gaggle of twenty-somethings get 'faced on a variety of bizarre alcoholic concoctions, including some true Appalachian moonshine, brewed up by a neighbor. Some things are alive and well.

Fishy: Taking over the Internet would be bad. Real bad.

Boxer: Glad we got to talk, even if the mountain got in the way.

Pam: Blobber was misbehaving with everyone, I think. Stoooopid Blobber.

Eggplant: I will definitely have to play around with this pie. Thanks for the vanilla tip. In the meantime, the figs should be here tomorrow. This weekend, I BAKE!

Czar: Ah, youth. I had three margaritas over the course of the entire Sunday and woke up Monday wrecked for everything.
