I think you got off easy. My girl absolutely refused to set foot in a Walmart. It was uncool to even be SEEN anywhere near a Walmart. Let alone buy an article of clothing there that you would actually wear to school. Interesting that she has changed her tune now that mom isn't buying. But she's still a Target girl over the Wal-marts.
I've got a 20-year-old who is sort of fashion-conscious, although not in this way; he just likes to look good -- but more in the vintage-clothing arena (that is to say, Dad's old flannel shirts). He doesn't have the money to shop by labels and was never one for the lowrider look. He'd be much happier with a cool vest from the Salvation Army.
My soon-to-be-17-year-old pretty much wears his pants like that, but he has a valid excuse. He's about 6 feet tall and weighs 118 pounds. Try to find a pair of 29/32 jeans.
Moi, The opinions of this age group are inflexible ... all that gruesome peer pressure. Sounds like it was an informative outing, and a great girls day.
In Mermaid's teen years...her self identity was more on the equestrian athlete page than the teen see and be seen social page. Thus her preferred look was the refined classic tailoring of her sport so her preferred clothing was tailored, fitted jeans or slacks with Brooks Brothers shirts. Thank God there is a Brooks Brothers outlet just an hour away.
Cartoon is funny, but I find this trend disturbing.
Yes, Moi - and Mom - the Walmart is not the same as when I was jr. high age. They've really come a long way and must have hired a fashion buyer who had a household of teenage girls throughout the 90's. mucho mucho improved.
Moi? I'm on my way to leave a comment on your fashion blog re a clothing garment I saw today while I was out shopping.
I don't have teenagers but I teach late teens/early twenties and what I find is that once they are out from under their parents' ability to pay for their clothes, they get rather less picky. Or rather more sloppy. Take your pick. LOL

Pam: Niece thinks Wal-Mart rocks, thank goodness. Then again, I suppose it does help that Wal-Mart has upped its game since Kym was a young'un.
Czar: Are you thanking your lucky stars you didn't have girls?
Moi,
