The Dress: Yay or Nay?

Many fashion pundits have said that Michelle looked like she was, "Wearing a sofa." I disagree. I loved it. Daring choice of color, too. So what if she channels a little bit of Jackie O? Better than channeling mother-of-the-bride.

Looks like a sofa to me. That was almost as hideous as her previous "Black Widow Spider" dress.

i just cant care anymore.

I didn't like it that much.. I preferred the one she wore later at the ball where she danced with Obama with just one shoulder strap. That woman is class!

I LOVED IT. It was so '60s. The fabric was gorgeous. Great color choice and I loved that it had a matching coat. She totally carried it off.

Sorry...I can only give the male perspective here...very fashion challenged.

She's just North of butt-ugly and a puke green dress isn't a bit of help.

Attempting to be a bit more analytical, I'd have to say that the tendancy for the thing to open up at the bottom half, emphasized the least attractive aspects of her shape.

It could be though that I have yet to manage the invocation for "white to embrace right" and I'm just way off.
I'll ask my "Mella Yella" friends what they think...quite rightly.

I loved it. I think it was classy, and I'm a big fan of coats/dresses this year. The color was cheery and seemed very First Lady-like.

Mostly, I was hoping you'd do a fashion post on this, so THANKS!!

Now, about the dress she wore in the evening........

I wonder if she weighs more than her alleged husband yet. My sources tell me she used to sit in her office eating bon-bons and watching Oprah all day when she "worked" at that Blago Job in Chicago.

thank you gnome for bringing up the burn of the day..
"white to embrace right?" let me just offer up the rotty back end salute to these bitches. nothing could have ever gotten me LESS on board than that dig. im just a few degrees short of burning like a friggin sun on this white guilt routine. and then there was tom brokaw saying take that you bigots in the south. i know this post is about dresses but i cant think about that when i should be sharpening sticks or stuffing gas rags down coke bottles. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Addendum: Saw a pic of her on Project Rungay wearing the little matching sweater over the dress instead of the coat. No likey the sweater.

I'm sorry I have my lesbian glasses on so someone is going to have to describe the dress to me because I can't see it. Or the shoes. What kind of sofa was she wearing? Ikea or Natuzzi?

moi said...

Woo hoo! Even Moi's "fashion challenged" dude readers are weighing in. Now, that's "united" fer ya!

But Shamu wins the Comment of the Day Award, which comes along with her choice of, drum roll please . . . a brand new pair of Jimmy Choos OR a wheel of Brie.

P.S. Viadurini

I bet Shamu picks the cheese.

Well, the cheese does stand alone but if I choose the Choos I could be very popular with the womens. Nothing says chick magnet like a free pair of Jimmy Choos.

Full disclosure: I am a white male, finding Michelle Obama to be a fabulous babe. I voted excitedly for Obama (although I think McCain would not have been a bad choice, especially the former McCain [Palin, not so much]). I spent 20 years in Atlanta, listening to every stripe of civil rights leader and former leader, laughing along with a lot of their antics. I watched the inauguration Tuesday with a sense of pride and delight, and was enjoying every minute of it, until Lowery's punch line about white/right. Misplaced, ill-conceived, and flat-out unfair. I think there's enough blame to go around the world to find that every color has made more than its share of awful mistakes, and I am really sorry and kind of pissed that the inauguration essentially ended with that send-off. Bad, bad move.

PS: Did you read that Obama's suit was apparently bulletproof? I don't think you can get that off the rack at Barney's.

I loved the color, especially color of those gloves! Re the outfit ... hmmm .... it was a little ... dare I say it ... Nancy Reagan looking to me! Would have liked to see a bit lower of a neckline. A little more sumthin' to the coat. Having said that, the woman can wear ANYTHING and look fab.

gossip: BRAVO declined to extend their "option" on deshawn snow for the "real atlanta housewives" becuase she wasnt enough drama for them. will they get another white chick? hmmmmmmmm

btw. question 1 of your interview is UP.

Pam said...

And let me add further that I'm sure she was going for the Jackie O look, with all the comparisons ad nauseum ...

moi said...

Shamu: You could wear them as a statement necklace!

Czar: Well, ya gotta be bulletproof in more ways than one today if you want the job of El Presidente.

Pam: I think the reason for the bulk/cover up was that it was fifty million degrees below zero there. So, we'll have to wait until spring to see what she turns out :o).

K9: Cool! I'll be right over!

reckon ya seen how the flubbed oath was re-administered in front of journalists yesterday? Heh.

Okay, I admit it, y'all: I didn't watch one secomundo of the inauguration coverage except to see what Michelle was wearing. Nope. Juh refuse! And you can put the accent wherever you like on that last word.

Man's got a heck of a road ahead of him and I don't want to bother with the pomp. Bring Moi the circumstance.

I love it all (color, texture) except for the A-line skirt at the bottom. I wish it had nipped in toward the knee.

But I love her and I love him so I may be seeing through rose-colored glasses.

I wonder what would happen if you photoshopped Palin's head onto the outfit? What would we say then?

*Ponders*

I like her, I like the dress. she's less dowdy than the queen, but the queen aims low.

I also like the justice fucktard fucked up the swearing-in, and the swear-ee CORRECTED him.

thus prompting a do-over.

I salute Michelle for being stylish with class. Anything revealing would have been tacky for a new First Lady and it was none too warm that day either!

In fact I think I saw her for the very first time in all her glory on inaugeration day - a fine and gorgeous lady in the style of a black Jackie K and making sure her girls did their father just as proud.
