Liar Liar Pants on Fire
"If you like your private healthcare plan, you can keep your plan. Period. Nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have."
Really? Then how come mine, a perfectly good, affordable plan that provided me with everything I needed and nothing I didn't was just canceled? Why am I now being forced into another plan whose premiums have tripled and my deductible doubled, and I have no idea what it covers because it doesn't tell me? (Although, they were awfully proud to tell me that I now have full coverage for maternity and mental health meds.)
A couple weeks prior to Obamination Care coming down, my Facebook feed was lousy with people yippee-skippying for this travesty. That stupid cartoon, remember that one? That explained to us idiotic, uncaring souls just why Obamacare was so gooooooooood for us? People thumping me on the head for not showing any compassion, for not caaaaaaaarrring that millions of people could now have insurance.
For days now, however, nothing but crickets chirping.
Dear America: how do you all like your shark-skinned savior now?

He didn't say anything about those plans still being affordable or that your Dr. wouldn't decide to retire rather than getting into this mess. Which by the way of many are doing just that.
Karl: Nope. Another thing that really bothers me is that we have bought hook line and sinker into the idea that insurance = healthcare. Thus, we have been focused on finding a way to PAY for insurance, whatever it may cost, rather than figuring out WHY it costs so much and working to lower those costs.
Because, let's be honest, medicine isn't rocket science. Certainly the technology of medicine is no more "magical" than the technology behind producing and delivering produce to the grocery store, your car to the showroom.
So why is it so expensive? Because 1. we believe it's magic and because 2. as long as insurance is the main conduit through which we receive medical care--with its host of bureaucrats who need to be paid standing in the way between your and your doctor--costs will never come down.

You're right, of course, insurance is NOT medical care, but greed predicating on our fears.
But that's ok. Life is all about risk/reward. Some people have a higher threshold for risk than others. Young, healthy, top of the world... take your chances if you've got the balls. However, risk has repercussions. Don't go doing stuff(?) you're not willing to own up to. The problem with all the government babysitting, is it allows people to fail without consequence. It allows people to not even try without consequence. Yet, the more beholden we are, the more indebted to their success...even to the detriment of our own self worth.

Oh, btw, I don't lie (much), but my pants are often quite heated...on FIRE, even:D It's not always a bad thing, ya' know.

Aw, Rafe, you hit the nail on the head: "The problem with all the government babysitting, is it allows people to fail without consequence. It allows people to not even try without consequence." I'll try to bare something fer ya by end day tomorrow. (other than my teeth--but only when I rant).
That's outrageous that you lost your cover like that. Surely the new scheme should be an optional thing which does not affect existing scheme. I hope it guarantees to offer like-for-like healthcare at the very least.
Poet: Bwahahahahaha! Optional? That would be called "free market healthcare." No such thing under the Obummer Regime. No way to fund this mess unless everyone pays much, much more. See my new post. It's everyone I know . . .
