Iran So Far Away

Is it just me, or are any of you Party People also spinning Flock of Seagulls' finest in your head whenever the news starts prattling on and on about Ahmadinjadabajab (or whatever the fork his name is, all I know is 1982 called and wants its Members Only jackets back) and his single-mindedly Islamatarded determination to make even more trouble in an area of the world on which we are dependent for our chi-chi-la-la lifestyles never mind the fact that its denizens are so assbackwards that New Guinea pygmies look like latte-swilling urbanites by comparison?

No?

How about now:

I love this song and can remember well rocking out to it on MTV back when MTV was new and kicking. That guy's hair ... well, let me tell you when we went down to Bricktown some years ago to see the revival act, he was a bit (lot) balder and didn't want to play "the song". Yeah, one of those too good to keep playing the hit everyone wants to hear. Almost ruined it for me. They have another song that wasn't quite as big that I liked also. If I had a photograph of you, or something to remind me ... something like that???

I always wonder how long the newscasters need to practice saying his name before they can do it quickly on camera?

I also wonder why the Dude doesn't have anyone who can dress him? From this DECADE? Maybe it's because he's a hater of women?

They make me nervous and Pam's story is a classic.

I can't see your video because of the firewall, but I'm assuming it's the MTV version. Mike Score (lead singer and keyboards) really creaped me out because he looked like some kind of albino-zombie-vampire. Could that guy be any whiter? And there's only like 3 chords in this song. Moi - I can't get it out of my head either.

On a different note about Iran. Is anyone else pissed off that the president has not made any kind of statement or warning to Iran in the wake of their navy's admiral stating, "Closing the Strait of Hormuz for Iran's armed forces is really easy ... or as Iranians say, it will be easier than drinking a glass of water."

President Clinton tried the ignore strategy after the USS Cole bombing and that got us - September 11th.

I don't advocate war, but we shouldn't be playing around with these guys. We're just going to have to hope that Karl can take care of this.

Aunty: Well, I'd hate to waste our conversion to the one true religion on a Bottega Veneta. Then AGAIN, if one IS going to go there, may as well do it with as much style as possible before the ol' hijab comes down.

Pam: Oh, I hate that attitude! You write a song that becomes a mega hit, it becomes a mega hit because people love it. So PLAY it and stop acting like all of a sudden you're Andres Segovia.

Boxer: There's a quote in Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book Nomad where she comes right out and says that peace, schmease, Islam is a religion based on and perpetuated by violence and hatred, both when it comes to women and the infidel in all its incarnations. She lived it for years. I tend to believe her.

Buzz: Yes. That version. Dude is creepy, song is great . . . Didn't I hear some suit from the State Department yesterday saying closing down the SoH is tantamount to an act of war or did I dream it? Going to war in Iraq was the most idiotic thing we've ever done, but I'd support missle-striking this little bitch for sure.

hate a flock of seagulls.

I am very short on blog time today but..

the NDAA not only gives the US a right to detain indefinitely american citizens, but it also put sanctions on irans currency which caused it to nosedive last week. it makes a ton of problems for both china and russia who trade with Iran, and countries both said they would come down on the side of iran in a US-vs-Iran skirmish.

Ive got no love for Islam or Iran, but we need to chill and think through our FP with them as we are broke, tired and seriously suffering from a knowledge black out thanks to our infantile news media. There is nothing about self-examination that isnt prudent, patriotic or conservative.

Good morning Moi,

I can't say I've ever put that tune together with President Ahmadinejad. When I think of him I think he needs to be the Thunderstruck.

So far none of the press statements by the Pentagon, State Dept or White House have said "act of war". Although an attack on any vessel in the carrier group would certainly be one. Unlikely to happen, even the Iranians aren't stupid enough to give us Carte Blanche to clean their clock.

moi said...

Chickory: I totally support not thumping on the head of anyone, even the worst dictator imaginable, so long as they keep their tyranny constrained within their own country's borders. Too bad, so sad, but it has nothing to do with us. And I agree that sanctions are stupid, because they only end up hurting the innocent folks who live under the iron fist. On the other hand, this dude seems to be itching for a fight outside his own sandbox, so I advocate keeping him in our sights.

Karl: That guitar intro is genius. If only combating Islam were as simple as introducing its youth to sex drugs and rock and roll. It would be a far better alternative.

What about the Vince Vance and the Valiant's classic? Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran? To the tune of Barbara Ann.

I got one. The Gap Band

You Dropped a Bomb on Me (baby)

Pam: Genius! I forgot all about that one!

K9: Hey, that's in constant rotation on my iPod. I sniff another meme: Song's To Bomb Iran By.

I don't dare click on the video, preferring to remain ignorant of music that I've successfully avoided for 30 years, but that's a hell of a sentence, Moi.

czar said...

PS: I always think of Stevie Wonder, "Living for the City":

"Iraq, Iran . . . I speak very, very fluent Spanish."

moi said...

Czar: And all with only just one comma!

czar said...

Mea culpa: The song I was thinking of was "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing."

Right album, wrong song.

And a good comma it was.

So, Miss 80's Moi, are these girls wearing their garbage bag tops or not? I can't decide. And is it wrong of me that I think that make-up still looks pretty good? This is a song on constant playlist around here. We are 80's people. I say it without hesitation or humiliation. Probably getting more play than this is "In a Big Country" ... I could go on. Come on Eileen; Tainted Love; Our House by Madness; Duran Duran; The Cure; Crowded House. I can't stop. Better go look up a playlist right now.

I had a grey member's only jacket stolen outta my yellow VW rabbit in college, 1986. I always wondered where it went....that mean little thieving anti-Semite bastard. Thanks for connecting the dots for me Moi!

moi said...

Czar: I've never heard the intro to that song. Hilarious! Dang, he sounds like every one of my aunt's neighbors on Kingsbridge Road.

Pam: Every year or so, designers trot 80s makeup back out for the runway. I dig it, but it's definitely a club look. The 80s get a bad rap musically, but any decade that can also feature along with the bubbly stuff "Start Me Up" and "Welcome to the Jungle" is okay by me. And the Talking Heads' absolutely brilliant Speaking in Tongues was released in 1983. Amazingly, it sounds as if it could have been released today.

Scout: "Mr. Abadjunadab! Unhand Scout's wardrobe or suffer the wrath of the Dark Lords of Sartorial Justice!"

Do dentist's really do this? I like the song and am popping out right now to get some nitrous Oxide.

Someone said Iraq and Iran should merge and become Irate. I think living in a giant kitty litter box or ashtray would make anybody nuts. I'm not crazy about the Koran but have you ever read the old testament or remember the inquisition? The crusades? They were sure they were obeying God and not greedy leaders. I'm a died in the wool christian but I blame the Leaders, not the religion.

moi said...

Curmee: I agree with your point. To a point. The crusades ended long ago, and radical pockets of Christians are today in the vast minority.

But the problem with Islam REMAINS Islam. To again quote Hirsi: Here is something I learned the hard way, but which a lot of well-meaning people in the West have a hard time accepting: All human beings are equal, but all cultures and religions are not.

A culture that celebrates femininity and considers women to be the masters of their own lives is better than a culture that mutilates girls' genitals and confines them behind walls and veils or flogs or stones them for falling in love . . .

In the real world, equal respect for all cultures doesn't translate into a rich mosaic of colorful and proud peoples interacting peacefully while maintaining a delightful diversity of food and craftwork. It translates into closed pockets of oppression, ignorance, and abuse. There is beautiful architecture yes, and encouragement of charity, yes, but Islam is [otherwise] built on sexual inequality and on the surrender of individual responsibility and choice. This is not just ugly; it is monstrous. The culture of the Western Enlightenment is [therefore]
better.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get "heavy". I have a bigotry I'm trying to combat.

Whas' WRONG wif' a good Crusade or Inquisition? I reckon it's time we re-instituted both.

moi said...

Curm: Some of that nitrous oxide should do the trick.

Aunty: Nah. Because that will just mean John Cleese in a tacky robe. I think all we need to do is now allow anything that even looks like Sharia Law to exist in this country. You have every right to practice your religion but we're going to stop being apologists for its abuses. And we will investigate, and prosecute to the full extent of the law, bodily mutilations of minors and anything that even resembles an honor killing.

Ah Moi, Cherie,
I wish't youse right--but that Texas Muslim killed his teen daughter--whar' were the outrage?

When Corzine dines on foie gras, whar's the outrage?

When Obama's boys give 63 billion to Euro banks, who then buy Greece's worthless bonds, thas' Aunty an' Moi bailing out Greece--whar's the outrage?

I cain't see any passion from the people to correct wrongs, to demand justice...I fear Sharia would be tolerated by D.C.

It doesn't remind me of Achmadinnajob but I do have that song on my Troll-Pod in the category of "Weird Songs". It's right between "Dance this Mess Around" by the B-52s and "Radio Clash" by The Clash.

Partly because they didn't see the Warlord Mohammed's life as an excuse to engage in inbreeding on a massive scale, Iranians (persians) have, historically, been a cut-above other groups of muslibs. Notably, Yemenis and Somalis, who have the highest rate of inbreeding on Planet Earth.

Their current Government, where Achmidinnajob ranks below dog-catcher in real power, is totally screwed-up. But the people themselves aren't that terrible by muslib standards.

Aunty: We had a foi gras outrage here many, many years ago. In a city, mind you, whose indigenous cuisine is based on the wholesale slaughter of piggies. It's funny what will get people up in arms, isn't it. Dog sledding? Fur-wearing? Liver-eating? All "cultural" as far as I'm concerned.

Troll: Weird Songs, huh? How about "Mexican Radio"? That's one of my faves. Reminds me of, oh, the fact that I'm glad I don't do coke. The bass in "Radio Clash" is awesome, but then again, I always thought Paul Simonon was the glue that held that band together. He's still making music. Actually, I agree with you about Iran. I just love to thump on Achmood because he's such a 'tard. It would be wonderful to see what could happen in that country with a true revolution.

Love the guitar in the song, HATE that the has-been singer didn't want to sing it. You are NOT David Bowie or Mick Jagger, dude! (and even THEY know enough to continue to play/sing their hits in spite of David saying years ago he would never play Ziggy Stardust again!)

Agree with you about the cultural bullshit, I'm SO SICK of rude/bad behaviour being excused because it's "cultural." Happens here all the time.

The DJ and I had a dance party by ourselves on Saturday night after our "date." Super fun and played C'mon Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners. Although I'm happy to never hear Tainted Love again after hearing it too many times at tacky weddings.
