Movie Clip Wednesdays: First Date Movie

Milk River Madman continues as our Host with the Most for this mid-week meme and has proclaimed today's theme, First Date Movie. Either first as in your first movie date ever, or first as in first with a significant other. Clerks was the first movie S.B. and I ever attended together, about a month after we first met. He showed up at my apartment on time, looked good, smelled good, laughed his ass off during the movie, and bought me margaritas and dinner afterward. I haven't dated anyone else since.

Okay, so a lot of Clerks doesn't hold up all that well some 16 odd years later, but there are still parts of it that are screamingly funny. Mainly because I think most of us have a similar kind of rootless period shoved in the back of the closet of our lives, a time when we briefly languished in a series of brain-numbing McJobs, invested the ephemera of every day life with Godzilla-like importance, and sparked up substance-fueled socio-political interpretations of pop cultural phenomenon. There's something to be said for the simple dumb purity of those days.

Head on over to Milk River Madman's place to see what other folks chose.

That was wicked awesome!!! I've never seen Clerks but it might have just jumped into my top 10 on that clip alone.

Happy MCW.

Good morning Moi,

"socio-political interpretations of pop cultural phenomenon" I can't say I ever thought that hard about it. It was a good clip though. And are right they knew the job was dangerous when they took it.

Have a happy clip day!

Oh, and best of luck on your new venture. What's it called? Pillow Fight Films;)

Sweet story. I thought "Silent Bob and Jay" were the least funny people in the movie but I guess they became the feature players of all the subsequent bad Kevin Smith movies.

Milk River: It's pretty much a guy flick, but I still found it funny.

Heff: Natch.

Karl: Pillow Fight Films specializes in a particular cinematic genre that combines a good pinch of "y'all wish" with a healthy dash of "most likely ain't gonna happen" followed by a few sprinkles of "but keep dreaming, 'cause you never know."

Troll: Jay and Silent Bob are really only funny once. And that Jay dude in real life is pretty low life.

Great movie but I don't know if it's a first date flick. There's some scenes like this that would make me a little uncomfortable:

Dante Hicks: How many dicks have you sucked?
Veronica Loughran: Let it go!
Dante Hicks: How many?
Veronica Loughran: All right, shut up a second and I'll tell you! Jesus! I didn't freak out like this when you told me how many girls you fucked!
Dante Hicks: This is different, this is important. How many?
[long pause as customer buys something]
Dante Hicks: Well?
Veronica Loughran: Something like... 36.
Dante Hicks: What? Something like 36?
Veronica Loughran: Lower your voice.
Dante Hicks: Wait, what is that anyway, something like 36? Does that INCLUDE me?
Veronica Loughran: Ummm... 37.
Dante Hicks: I'm 37?

I still think the Happy Scrappy Hero Pups scene is the funniest thing in this movie.

Happy MCW!

Buzz: I don't think we fully realized what we were in for. Then again, it's pretty difficult to embarrass me.

Another one I haven't seen, but know it is also one of those cult classics. Definitely should be on my to-see list. Happy MCW! P.S., I don't blame you for not dating any one else, sounds like SB hit some of the good rules of dating right away!

I was thinking the same thing about most of the movies I saw in my "youth".. they rarely hold up well, still..... CLERKS was quirky and strange and I got a kick out of it.

Buzz's ability to recite the movie is both fascnicating and just a leetle bit scary. :-)

Happy MCW!

p.s.

I worked in a drug store in New Jersey when Mr.Boxer was in grad school..... I think that's why I liked this movie so much.

Pam: The thing about S.B., was that he was like a pair of shoes to me. Oooooo, pretty! Oooooo, sexy! To where I didn't initially notice whether or not he was actually going to fit into my wardrobe. But 16 years later, I still haven't sent him to the consignment shop.

Boxer: Like most men, Buzz seems to possess the Movie Dialogue Recital Gene. That ability must be rooted in some kind of evolutionary purpose, but I'll be danged if I can figure out what that is.

I just watch a lot of movies and frequent IMDB.com all the time. There are a lot of famous quoteable figures in history, such as Ben Franklin and Mark Twain. But I think some of the greatest philosophies and quotes come from movies. In my world anyway.

Buzz: Okay, but still, y'all REMEMBER all that stuff. That's what kills me, especially given that crickets chirp when it comes to, say, remembering not to put the good knives in the dishwasher.
