Overpowered by Funk

It's election day in Nuevo Mexico—primaries for governor being the most importante vote on the docket (seriously, does anyone ever pay attention to who's running for Under Sheriff? Secretary of Tea? Judge of the Court of Knuckleheadedness?)

The Demobrat candidate remains unopposed although the Republitards have put up a slew of candidates, two of which are talking head Party Dolls a la McCain and Palin and one of which needs to still hone his public speaking skills before he trots himself back out in public.

The two remaining candidates I actually believe are truly worthy of the office. Which means they have a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected.

Same as it ever was.

What's up in your part of the world?

Ack! I have (almost) sworn to never vote in a primary again because of all the phone calls you get in November when the real election is decided. But it is important ... as much to keep certain people out as it is to get certain people "in". Yep, same as it ever was. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Only we keep getting fooled again.

I can't hardly wait for primaries to be over. The local rag is swamped with "vote for this guy, he has integrity. blah, blah blah." Outside of that the sun hasn't made an official appearance since around May 15. It's windy and going to rain so I can't hit golf balls. I also left my gym gear at home so now I am forced to go to happy hour. Damn the luck.

Forgot to tell you that dogs belong on couches.

Good evening Moi,

There's the problem, the ones that are worthy of office can't get enough funding to run an effective campaigns unless they knuckle under to the party bosses. Once they've caved in to party bosses, they're is bad as the rest talking heads. We need to set spending limits on elections. For president X amount. For governor X amount and so on. If you run out of money tuff you're done spending.

I'm in Hippie Land and we've been a Dem State for DECADES. And always will be. *sigh* Unless the conservative side of the state rises up, but there just aren't enough of them. "We" just love taxes up here.

Primaries in June? I hate the commericials that flood every radion/TV during the process and I'm glad it's vote for that reason.

Nothing much here. We had our city council elections a few weeks ago, and I was working the polling place for one of the candidates. Met one of the other candidates, who was an absolute ass. Badmouthed people he didn't know walking by, claimed he had allegiances with the other candidates that I found out later didn't exist, etc., etc. In a rare display of popular wisdom, he came in fourth in a five-person race, in which the top three win the job.

My favorite elected position: when we lived in a small beach town in northeastern Florida, we got to exercise our franchise for the exalted Mosquito Control Officer.

Primaries in Jersey are next week (I think) but I have never voted in one. I'm an indepentent and I don't believe in the primary system. Why should the American public pay for a preliminary election so the 2 parties can pick their candidates. Let them do that on their own time and dime. They can fight it out in a steel cage match. Two men enter, one man leaves.

I see it as just another ridiculous waste of taxpayer money.

Pam: We were liberated from the fall, that's all.

Milk: Reason #456 S.B. and I didn't end up moving to Montana. Nice place to visit, though. Dat dawg? He didn't start getting up on the furniture until he hit his dotage. I figure, anything that old, can do what it wants.

Karl: I have no idea why we don't have spending limits. It's the only thing that makes sense and that is truly equitable. In our case, the two best, most intelligent candidates just didn't have the $$ power.

Boxer: Maybe there's hope for Washington. NM is overwhelmingly Demobrat but we elected Gary Johnson, a stone cold Libertarian Republican, to TWO consecutive terms. All he did was veto every spending bill the legislature hit him with. That, and ride around the state on his bicycle picking up trash. It was GREAT . . .

Czar: I guess expecting a politician to be a decent human being is kind of like expecting to water your lawn by spitting.

Buzz: Bust a deal, face the wheel.

the sheriff is a very important election.

from a great blog "the solari report"

..."Under the U.S. Constitution, who has the ultimate authority to determine the legality of an enforcement action and enforce the law in your community?"

more here: http://solari.com/blog/?p=5100

i cant vote for anything about blue ridge because i live in the county not the city limits. so ordinances and decisions at this important level are closed to me. same situation in ATL

the gov's down here are interchangeable as far as i can tell.

i agree with Karl. We need everyone in each race to get X amount of equal dollars and state funded tv time. thats it. but of course there would always be some way to work around it. there seems to be nothing to stop the runaway train of corruption that plagues this country.

Heff: We all did what we could do.

Gnome: Andale, Joto, your popsicle's melting.

Chickory: Did not know that. I guess I should quit flipping him the bird when he cruises the neighborhood.

One of the best South Park episodes was an election for a school mascot. It was between a douchebag and a turd sandwich. Every time my phone rings with one of those automated political calls, I laugh a little and hang up. (Please forgive. It is 2:00 a.m. and I really shouldn't be online.)
