I remember The Midnight Special and "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert".
And I remember when dirt was invented.

Great unexpected selection!

Happy MM.

I totally love this song and performance! There's another song about "You Are My Shining Star" by a band I can't remember now. Great choice and Happy MM!

BTW, I also was a faithful viewer of Midnight Special and am half tempted to buy those DVD's that are on sale via infomercial ...

shhhhhhh. I miss parts of disco too and there's a ton on my "Jump Rope" mix. What a lovely way to start the day. Very happy.

Troll is not as old as me. I remember when disco was invented.BWHAHAHAHA.

Troll: Yes! Don Kirshner's was soooooo cool!

Pam: The Manhattans? Oh, yeah, I've seen those. I think you can get them on Amazon, too :o)

Boxer: I also remember the day my freshman year boyfriend showed up in class wearing a "Disco Sucks" tee shirt and a safety pin in his nostril. Overnight, my sensibilities switched from Halston to Doc Martin.

Yes! The Manhattans. That's it! And now it brings to mind the Prince song, Baby I'm a Star. Probably lots more *star* songs if I had put my mind to it!

Oh I'm a disco girl all the way and we still listen to it on our cable tv channel music thing.

Yes, Troll, I too remember "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert." I remember watching one night and he introduced a new band "that used to be Linda Ronstadt's backup band. Now they're known as the Eagles."

"Shining Star" I remember as disco (and I loathe disco), but this live version sounds a whole lot more like funk to me. Funk is far preferable.

Moi the disco star! Post video :-)

Leon: Shouldn't that be, "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby"?

Milk: EW&F are totally awesome.

Aunty: I will! In a Fashion post!

Anna: Great song, isn't it?

Vixen: Always a good thing :o)

Pam: "Hey, i ain't got no money/but I'm rich on per-son-al-ity!"

Czar: Well, yes, there is a blurring of lines between the two. But still, how can a person loathe disco?

Fishy: Can't sing a note. But I can dance :o) And there's nothing I love better than a vintage Halston disco dress. Tres chic.

I'm old enough to remember EW&F too. I loved this song. The boy has a band he plays with at school (led by the shop teacher - go figure) and I was shocked to find that they play a lot of EW&F (not Shining Star sa far as I know). So maybe I'm not so old.

Happy MM!

Good morning Moi,

I've heard the song before, but I've never seen it. With all those folks in the band, it's a wonder they made enough money to feed themselves.

Happy Tardy Tuesday

Buzz: We are old enough to know our musical tastes rock and to bitch about the lack of quality in much of today's popular music.

Boxer: Cool! I was never lucky enough. I did see K.C. and the Sunshine Band, though. (I can feel Czar rolling his eyes from here :o) )

Kym: Your taste ain't too shabby, either :o)

Karl: You know, you bring up a very good point. This was a time when there were popular musical artists, to be sure; but I don't think any of them made near what our pop idols do today.
