I was hoping you'd do music. There was some really BAD music and some good in the 80's. I think the women did better than the men (WHAM!) And despite my long love-hate thing I have for Madonna, I gotta say... she shaped a great deal of MY 20's, during the 80's.
Now if I could just get rid of the pictures of me........
i met pat benatar 2 years ago. she performed at a condo resort thing in palm bay florida where a buddy has a place -a concert just for residents. kinda cool. shes very tiny. reminds me of a small forest creature with that little upturned mouth.
great selection of photos. i dont know who most of them are though. i think this was my Lost Decade. i cant remember a thing. except that i hated it.
Aha! You went the way of the female 80's rocker! Was anyone ever cooler than Blondie at that point in time? I'm not a Madonna fan either, but you have to give her credit for her 80's stuff! I always thought Pat Benatar looked like her teeth hurt.
Boxer: The great thing about Madonna is this: she knew what she wanted, she got it, and she's laughing all the way to the bank. While still lookin' pretty damn good. And if she were a dude, we wouldn't give her even a smidgeon of schimpfing for it.
Buzz: Lita Ford is seriously underrated. Love her. Wendy O. was a seriously fascinating/tragic character. RIP. Joan Jett still SERIOUSLY rocks.
K9: I've always thought she kinda looks like a chipmunk.
Troll: What I like most about the Eighties is that it produced tons of bona fide female rock and rollers. We're not making them like these gals anymore. Britney, Beyonce, even Lady Ga Ga simply do not COUNT. Courtney Love was my last great hope, but she's more interested in swanning about in designer dudes and acting fruity than she is in getting back in the studio.
Pam: I was insane for Debbie Harry, just insane. I emulated her look in every way I could, she was so totally cool. Still is.
NYD: "Howard the Duck and Mr. Stress both stayed/Trapped in a world that they never made/But not me, baby, I'm too precious/I had to fuck off."
Gnome: The Pretenders' first album is perhaps the finest music put on vinyl in that entire decade. I've played the hell out of it and still do.
Chicory: Lita Ford, Poison Ivy from the Cramps, Donita Sparks from L7, Joan Jett, the Mighty Wendy O. Williams from the Plasmatics, Martha Davis from the Motels, Siouxsie Sioux from Siouxsie and The Banshees, Exene Cervenka from X, Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders, Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons, Lydia Lunch, Debbie Harry from Blondie, Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, La Madonna.
Shamu: She be über cool. I saw her in concert opening for Robert Plant many moons ago and she did this version of The Stooges's "Wanna Be Your Dog" that blew me away.
Karl: I don't know what your musical tastes run to, but you could always iTunes 'em and see!
Gnome: Was lucky enough to see them in concert, too. Martha's voice is perfection. My fave is "Suddenly Last Summer." Whoa . . . did you and I just agree on something musically?
I think we'd all have guessed Madonna in the Top Spot, but are you surprised by others on the list of Top 80s Chick Hits?
Madonna … 15 hits with 4 in top 10 (average song in top 24) Pat Benatar … 8 hits none in top 10 (average in top 39) Whitney Houston … 6 hits none in top 10 (average in top 27) Tina Turner … 6 hits none in top 10 (average in top 29) Sade … 5 hits with 3 in top 10 (average in top 15) Gloria Estefan … 5 hits none in top 10 (average in top 34) Cyndi Lauper … 3 hits with 1 in top 10 (average in top 10) Donna Summer … 3 hits none in top 10 (average in top 30) Irene Cara … 2 hits with 2 in top 10 (average in top 10) Bette Midler … 2 hits with 1 in top 10 (average in top 11
Blondie is the only one who managed to look stylish in the 80s-I suppose it helps that she has one of the most stunning faces in the history of pop.
The other stars of the 80s were Nena's hairy armpits (remember 99 Red Balloons)!! If they'd been on TV these days you would have had a scandle akin to Janet Jackson's nipple exposure. Ban the Bush! the moral majority would have cried.

Happy MM!

Buzz picked singer girls too. His were more feminine but some of yours rocked.
Happy Mute Monday!

You found a really great picture of Crissie Hynde. Man, did I dig her!
I've always been conflicted over Crissie Hynde. Love the music, but she's such a commie!
Pat Benatar on the other hand...
please identify these women!

Ah, Joan Jett. Long time crush.
Good morning Moi,
I guess I'm not doing too good with this one, I only recognized 4 of them, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Blondie and Cyndi Lauper.
After reading your list to Chickory, other than Madonna I've never heard of any of the others.
Now playing... "Take the L" from "Little Robbers."
Love the Motels.
Shamu: She be über cool. I saw her in concert opening for Robert Plant many moons ago and she did this version of The Stooges's "Wanna Be Your Dog" that blew me away.

Suddenly Last Summer...best cut off of "Little Robbers." (Now playing)
We've agree on a lot of music, just disagreed on a lot as well.
My favorite thing about the 80's women rockers was the makeup.
Blue eyeshadow at it's finest.
happy MM.
Wow,
Have you noticed how most of these women look like they are in pain or just really annoyed?
Happy MM, I am up at the Pond with a memory trip.
Troll: Cool stats! Did you make Al fish them out for you?
Emma: She was sooooooo beautiful, wasn't she? STILL looks good at 60+ the biatch.
Gnome: I'd say about 40/60. That's okay, one day you will wake up and realize that Beck is God.
Kym: Not just blue eyeshadow, but blue eyeshadow out to here:
Fishy: Love is a Battlfied.
Uh some of that is 70's and 90's
