Dinner of Champions

Y'all know how when you're deep inside a project, working so furiously and with such intensity, you pay little if any attention to anything that's going on around you? Heck, UGGs could come back in fashion for fall and you'd barely bat a lash, so focused are you on your project at hand.

That's what it's been like for me these past couple days.

And when I get like that, when S.B. is out of town and I don't have an excuse to make a real, bona fide dinner that covers all the food groups, I just grab whatever's at hand for sustenance.

Sometimes, to disastrous results.

TOTALLY BAD IDEA

So tell Moi:
What dumb ass combination of foods and/or drinks
have you put in your mouths lately?

2 a.m. raids on the refrigerator and pantry that might include any or all of cold cereal, tuna fish, condiment sandwiches (mayo and dijon mustard), olives, leftover pizza, tomato soup. . . . after not eating all day, it seems somehow appropriate to have all 3 meals within 20 minutes.

Yuck. Don't recall ever combining anything that gross. My problem is that I'm CHEAP and sometimes go the GROTESQUELY LARGE PORTION route to avoid wasting food.

I.E. Dinner for 4 planned the day before Mr. Troll takes 6 day trip. 2 people cancel at last minute. So, Mr. Troll eats 3 salads, 3 plates of Lasagne, 3 loaves of garlic bread and 3 canolis.

I love all those things...but I can see how maybe at one sitting would be a problem.

In the tradition of Dads throughout time, I'm the official family garbage disposal. Most of my meals are made up of bits and pieces of whatever is leftover in the fridge.

Things can get ugly.

Czar: The time stamps on emails I get from you and Laurie blow me away. Dude, I'm SLEEPING at 2 a.m.! Which is why, I suppose, I don't get the big bucks.

Troll: Hey. I can do that too! We have the Italian Eating Gene in my family, which means by all rights, I should weight 3 bazillion pounds. Ergo: all that activity.

Iamnot: I remember my own father hoovering after us as a kid. Never even ordered his own meal when we went out to dinner. Just cleaned up what we didn't eat.

I just keep the Salt/Sugar levels balanced.... nachos followed by ice cream, ice cream followed by chips. THEN, dinner! Pizza? You bet. When I'm on a bender, nothing is safe.

AB: Pizza is always good. All the food groups in one spot, don't cha know.

K9: Oooo, we'll trade photos and blob posts. Because I am the biggest State Fair Geek ev-ah. I start off with the livestock and poultry shows. Then I get an Indian Taco and some watermelon horchacha. After that, the art shows (Hispanic, Native American, African American, general) and the cross stitch and quilting exhibits. Then it's time for cotton candy and the muscle car show.

For some sick reason I happen to love the gross combination of eating honey mustard tuna salad on a bagel with my coffee. I need twenty Altoids after that...

OMG, I canNOT believe that they make Good & Plenties in jug size!! I would almost make a trip to Wal-Mart for that.

As for me, you know I gravitate toward anything cheesy. Or Funyuny. Or both.

K9: I don't wear a lot of tee shirts, but I'm always looking for slogans to put on them. And, draft horses are boooooootiful.

Thursday: I need an Altoids after READING that!

Wicked: That would be AB's suggestion to balance the salt with the sweet. Good and Plentys jugs rock. Remember that come Moi's b-day will ya?

I steal my son's Batman Fruit Snacks after he goes to bed and wash them down with a glass of cab.

Mmmm.

Those fruit snacks are awesome. Now I get why the kids go so nutty for them.

Pizza, cookie dough and mashed potatoes. Breakfast of champions.

Holy crap, I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Hmmmm, bad food choices whilst under the gun? I'm like AB so usually it involves a yoyo of salty treats and sweet treats, always accompanied by straight Pepsi, until I'm so disgusted with myself that I feel the need to go eat steamed fish and veggies.

moi said...

Emma: I've done Limburger and jam before, but never Cheddar.

Mandy: There's a certain deliciousness to stealing from children, isn't there?

Suz: Welcome! I think you win the prize for yuckiest quickie meal. For a moment, I thought you were going to include Rufus's food, too.

Shamu: Ah. Food restitution. Been there. Done that. It usually involves lots of salad.

I literally just finished shoving about three salad mixing spoon sized globs of chocolate filling from the bowl intended to fill my wife's chocolate cream pie in progress - being made for some party tomorrow. It might be a little low on filler now. Followed by a Blue Paddle beer. And now I am eating string cheese. I ran tonight and am crabby. 'nuff said.

moi said...

WTWA: Ooooo, you get points for running. But then you were crabby and grabby, so maybe not.

I'm on a diet right now so I am pretty careful about what I stuff down my maw, but I have been known to slice up a can of spam place pinapple rings between the slices andf cover the whole thing with cheese.
After nuking the damned thing for about three and a half minutes you top it with hot sauce and guzzle a couple of cans of beer or your favorite Chardonnay

My body is a temple Moi!

Ok then, far too much chocolate and sugary stuff I admit (not least since my lovelife has taken a dive lately), but aside from that I behave and eat properly.

moi said...

NYD: Okay, now you're #1 for grossest meal so far. Good job!

Poet: Last I heard, chocolate had those, uh, whatchacallems? Antioxidants? So you should be fine, just fine.
