What's in a Game

I'm feeling a little blue this morning.

Yes, LSU won the national college football championship last night (quite handily, it turns out). Yes, the game was an occasion to forgo a regular sit down supper and instead stuff ourselves silly in front of the T.V. with chile con queso, pork sandwiches, chocolate cake, and beer. Yes, every point scored caused such merriment in S.B., he actually sprung out of his chair to do an energized happy dance around the living room. Causing me to giggle and ponder why it is we never actually go out dancing. Man's got some kind of funky rhythm. Then again, maybe that's just Moi.

But as elation-making as last night's game was, it also portends something bittersweet: the end of football season and, hence, the long, slow slide into a late winter/early spring bereft of any kind of celebratory event or holiday. Okay, so there's the Stupor Bowl. But let's face it, I'm not really a fan of professional football, the Saints and Patriots excepted. Sure, it's nice to stare at some firm buns and chiseled forearms, but after a few minutes of that, I pull out the laptop and start cruising eBay.

As for holidays, talk about barren. President's Day? Yeah, right. Moi, celebrate the birth of a politician? Fuggedaboutit. Valentine's Day? Meh. S.B. is usually out of town for the event and despite my addiction to all things purdy, I've never been much of a fan, although I adore the flowers. Easter? I haven't celebrated since my mother died.

And we won't even talk about the weather. Spring in New Mexico is fickle to say the least. One day you're being seared by the sun and 80 degree temps, the next a foot of snow blankets your budding buddleia.

Obviously, this is a time when I get in a lot of reading and baking.

Oh, and one more thing. Guess what time it also is? Time to fret over whether or not I get picked in the lottery for La Luz. Remember La Luz? From now until May, it's white knuckle time. 'Cause I'm determined to hit a 2:30 this year. IF I get in.

And ever get off this sofa . . .

Our pre season footy starts next month and I can't wait. It is so depressing when it ends in September. Now Moi, our guys don't wear none of that padding and such.....oh no.....just bare, rippling muscles and tight butts. I have a habit of posting pics of such man flesh during the football season so stay tuned.

Hope you get La Luz. I clicked on the link and am still not altogether sure what it is but I'll be rooting for ya from the comfort of my sofa if you get in. Yoohoo!!! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie....Moi, Moi, Moi.

I for one am glad football is over with. Because of those pig skin tossers, I have my very own TV. And I don't mind being isolated from my family during these times :)

Gypsy: It's that running thing again. But NOT in high heels, I swear. And yes, Aussie men are such hunks . . . I await your posts :o)

Upset: I, too, have my very own television. But I'm too lazy to haul my ass into the bedroom and watch it. Hence, eBay.

Troll: Survival of the fittest. Or most aptly scheduled. Either way, we'll take it.

Same as me... Though I have never been a pro football fan, I have always enjoyed it when I drop in on a college ball game. Whether it be football, basketball or any other amature sport for that matter.

And, as that "dancer" in your family ... There "gotta be" some way you can convince him out to a dance! LOL

Take care! :-)

Last night I gave myself over to winter and stacked up all the books I haven't read over the last 2 years or so next to my bed. Then I got out all that yarn I've been stuffing into the guest closet and started checking out knitting recipes. Because much as I am against a winter that lasts a minute past 6 weeks, I s'pose there's something to be said for hunkering down and hibernating a spell. Winter is simply not meant to be a time of action, except for you folks training to run up the side of a mountain. I've said it before and I'll say it again: that is just plain c..r..a..z..y. But admirable. Deeply, deeply admirable.

Dave: Well, I believe the dancing problem might just lie with Moi. Whose feet, while nicely outfitted, are quite clumsy. And they can't follow a lead to save their lives.

Wicked: I suspect you have a gift with the yarn, girl. And I say that not only to pay you a compliment but as a prelude to perhaps commissioning something from you in the future. The operative word of course being future.

Aunty: Oh, you name it. I also buy and sell Mid Century Modern American ceramics. But eBay's also a great way to shop for clothing. Go to the stores, try stuff on, note what works, hit eBay to see if you can find it deeply discounted. So, uh, you're one of those European-type travelers ain't cha? With your big sunglasses and Hermes scarf wafting in the breeze behind you :o)

Sad indeed.........

I was lucky enough, to be on the Ohio State campus watching the game with students and alum eating 'wings' as it became hostile and dangerous to be around.

???? if your TEAM doesn't do well why do you light things on fire ????
we escaped unharmed, thank you Garmin!
