I don't know who it was who took Twain to see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, but his host asked, "Well, what do you think?" Twain's response: "It appears to be a success." I love that.
HST changed my life in a way I cannot quite put my finger on. But it was Campaign Trail that did it, not Las Vegas. I do have pegged to my bulletin board about 24 inches from my nose right now the two original covers of Rolling Stone for the Las Vegas issues. Sorry to say, the issues themselves are long gone.
And I won't forgive Wenner Publishing, for which I did one job, for dangling the possibility of editing an HST bio in front of me, and then going out of business. Grrr.

"The ME Decade" is a chapter worth re-reading when ya look at all our aging pollyticians and actors--hoo-whee!

Hey, I'm a (f)Art History Graduamat. My pop is a painter (canvases, not houses), and more than a few people in Moi's social circle are artists. Plus, I have done quite the job over the years of emptying the Shoe Fund in the merry service of booootiful art purchases.
I just have to laugh at some of it sometimes. I mean, Jackson Pollock. Come on, right?
