For Chickory
For some reason, we are enjoying an embarrassment of riches when it comes to Northern Flickers this year. Most years, I see one or two, and usually just in passing. Never at the feeders. But these dudes are hanging around in greater numbers than I've ever experienced and they're hungry. Which on the one hand is awesome—the are a beautiful and fascinating bird. On the other, they are little piglets. My Shoe Fund has suddenly become the Sunflower Chip Fund.

That's a most beautiful bird. Love the tapestry of colors.
Do we need to start a "feed the bird" fund for you?
(and bless you for giving up your shoes for the birds.)
Good afternoon Moi:
Neet bird. Better to have peeps for the birds, than peeps for the toes.
Snow White's Freakin' Wilderness Sanctuary is lovely indeed! Do you still have lots of snow?
Boxer: A beautiful bird but, shhhhhhhh, slightly schtupid. Keeps trying to peck open the metal surrounding an outside air vent. We've become used to the noise by now . . .
Karl: Well, then, my friend, perhaps you are not looking at the right peep toe :o)
Eggy: We're getting a little bit of meltage, but it's been too cold for much to evaporate. Kind of difficult to eliminate 18" unless the temps get above freezing, and they're just not.
What plumage!
We have idiot woodpeckers that try to jackhammer the gutters.
Hope thar's plenty of fire wood!
Nice salute to the bird lady. NO mystery here about your popularity, I've thought for years how wonderful it would be to come eat a Moi's!
Haiku Monday theme is posted. Come play!
What a gorgeous bird! I don't think I have ever seen one here. What I did see today had me a bit concerned -- a robin. And it isn't even full-on winter yet. Unless there is a bird that looks like a robin.
Aunty: For some reason, our Flickers and the other woodpeckers jackhammer just about everything metal attached to the house. It's like they can't believe it's not wood and their bird brains won't let them stop trying.
Fishy: They are truly spoiled. Sunflower chips, thistle, peanut butter, suet, all the rotted fruit gets tossed out there, too. The little Juncos love watermelon—oranges not so much.
Pam: I see Robins on occasion in winter, too! I have always wondered what that means . . . I need to check my book.
YOU GOT IT!!! I love that bird. and its nice and clear. His plumage is like velveteen. a complex pattern of striking colors. listen, I'll contribute to the shoe fund to reward you for feeding the piglet. thanks for this post!! xo
