Nineties Nostalgia

That's it. I've officially become my parents: "What's this crap you're listening to?!? Music was better in my day!"

I just don't hear much new music that excites me. Do you? If so, let me know and I'll tune in. Otherwise, I'll just have to cling to my nostalgia.

"The Shield" had some pretty good newish music. Later than the 90s anyway.

I'm not watching The Voice, BUT it was on the other night and Adam Levine was doing a duet with Gym Class Heroes (I think?) and it was the first time in a long time I actually paused to listen. I have to put Cee lo Green on the list too. What an entertainer. His voice isn't fabulous, but I love watching him.

Troll: Thanks for the tip. I Wiki-ed "Music of the Shield" and got a rundown of all the songs for every season/show. Some cool stuff (Howard Roark is a band?), but a lot of it IS '90s :o)

Boxer: I forgot about Cee Loo Green. I like him. "Bright Lights Bigger City" has a very cool, cruisin' vibe and is a staple on my running playlist. Haven't seen The Voice yet, although I need to because you're not the first person who's told me it's good.

The Voice is good, but I never seem to catch it. Despite my huge crush on that tall, handsome Okie named Blake Shelton. WOOOT! Saw him in person at an event a few years ago when he was about to hit it big ... oh. my. gawd. That is one fine looking fellow. I'm with you on the music ... start posting some songs you find ... or do the MRM thing and start a playist on playlist.com .... we could all listen in!

I've been enjoying The Voice. Some very impressive talent there. If you want to catch it, this coming week is the last, I think. Performance show Tues. at 9:00, results show Wed. at 8:00 (those are east coast times).

but the new music is crap. auto tune, loopdeloops, pop star formula generators, cynical management. Im not watching any shows -other than season two of justified and then i am getting season one of breaking bad. I love watching TV this way - a few a night without weeks between. by the way, my affection has transferred to boyd not rayland. grheahaha

speaking of cee-lo - i have a collection of mash-ups. you know, where somebody blends two songs in garage band or some other sound mixing tool? I love crazy blendt with a Prince (he who throws KardASSian off the stage for her inability to dance even marginally) song which i am sending you now.

but the best is in the starlight a mash up of old jackson five with fiddy. I know Troll would love that. Rap songs work great with metal bands too.

Chickory: Raylan's very pretty, but man, I want to smack the shit out of him for his allegiance to that dumb bunny, Wynonna. Boyd's everything you know you shouldn't do but do anyway just to see if you can survive it.

Don't buy Breaking Bad. We got the first season on DVD and have one more to watch and then I'll give it to you when you get here. Thanks for the mash-up; I'm going to go look for one featuring Ministry :o)

in your search type "ministry vs...." or look for ministry bastard songs. Ive been wanting to try my hand at a video mashup but it wont happen today. while i was napping, the hens came in the house. Easter has pushed a little hole in the corner of the screen door. what i woke up to would make lesser chicks weep.

oh - i am on season 2. Mags is something! amazing to see both her and Helen on a show. you just dont see women like this on tv. where i left off, it looks like boyd and ava are going to happen.

Chickory: Ruh roh. Cheekohns had a pah-tay?

Found one, although it's a song from Ministry's synthpop days. Mary Jane Girls vs. Ministry: "In My House Everyday Is Halloween" — heh.

GET OUT OF THE 90's! PLEASE! When I see photos of myself in the 90's I'm wearing way too many large floral shirts, printed jackets and jeans. *shudder*

Now, now, Moi, you know there is plenty of fabulous music out there you just won't hear it on the regular radio. Regular radio is corporate and most stations are owned by Clear Channel so will be loaded with auto tune crap. And because there are no more record stores anymore, it makes finding good music just a little more hard, but it's out there and there is a lot of it. Leave the crap music they play on the radio for the tweens and tune into Pandora radio. You can pick an artist you like and they will pick songs from other artists you might like based on that...like maybe Jack White radio! You can click on a button that says you don't like a particular song and it won't play it again. You can create as many stations as you want...yesterday we were listening to Demetri of Paris radio. And Massive Attack radio. And dub radio. Or Wes Montgomery radio....Also, the DJ just told me RDO.com is another streaming service.

Ok, grandma, get to it!!! Off to the Keys for a few days...xo

Also, many people have created cool play lists on Itunes known as Imixes. That's another good way to learn about new music.

La Diva: Okay, I'll make you a bet: I'll take one month to try to find current music that measures up. If I can't find it, you owe me tostones :o)

Nineties fashion, however, did suck the big one, didn't it.

Enjoy the Keys and don't do anything that involves wearing something with a flowered print.

Moi, even the DJ admitted that the last five years has been abysmal for great music. I love Jamiroquoi, he consistently puts out great music.

If you don't find anything, the DJ will have to make you some cds! Just got back from the Keys....an interesting day on the boat yesterday....caught in a storm at sea! And I did buy a floral cover up! HA! (can't help myself...)

I'll make tostones for you anytime! xo
