Movie Clip Wednesdays: Best Buddy Movie

Not much time today since I'm buried in work and trying to meet impossible deadlines (which, when all is said and done, actually in fact end up being possible, but while I'm in the thick of it, everything is just so sturm und drang), so just a quick explantion.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, not so much because I'm all that big a fan of Marilyn Monroe (mixing childlike helplessness with smoldering sexuality isn't interesting, it's manipulative and kind of gross), but because I'm a huge fan of Anita Loos, upon whose novel of the same name the movie is based. The film isn't nearly as biting as the book (and Monroe's Lorelei is nowhere near as distasteful as her literary counterpart), but it still touches on some interesting themes and it's worth a repeat watch for the musical numbers, the clothes, and the contrast in look and temperament between Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe.

Head on over to Milk River Madman's place to see what other folks chose.

Which movie is this one? How to Marry a Millionaire? Isn't MM in that one with Jane Russell also? I know I should be able to place this one, but it is beyond me today! Anyway, unexpected and utterly fantastic choice! Happy MCW.

I dont think ive ever seen these! i agree that childlike pee pee poo talk is creepy combined with va va voom. but i love the style of it...man the costumes from back when. i recently scanned past an old black and white with the famous swimmer actress...forget who...and they did those incredibly intricate routines in pools with those funky flowery caps? try that, industrial light and magic!

happy MCW!!

Pam: Gentlemen Prefer Blonds.

K9: Esther Williams! Some of her movies are ART, man.

Heff: But of course you do. I'd be worried if you didn't.

Good evening Moi,

I always loved Marilyn Monroe's looks, yet I'm not fond of her voice to aire or breathless. On the other hand Jane Russell has a singer's voice, solid you could hear it.

I think K9 is referring to Esther Williams.

Hope you get a minute to relax, have a happy clip day.

Karl: I think she was a beautiful woman, too, but I could hardly stand to listen to her. What was that voice ABOUT?

Girl buddy movies!!! Yeah!

I'm glad you went the female route for this theme. Two of the hottest babes of their time and they really knew how to dress. And if it gets the Heff seal of approval...

Happy MCW!

Heh. Fun choice!

Yep, these ole movies is fun and as a a kernel of "ain't it so!" at the center.

These two, Monroe an' Russell are a fella's dream team. But I is creeped out too by Monroe's baby doll act from inside that very grown girl frame.

Happy MCW!

Cake: I know, I'm surprised there weren't more. I was expecting at least Thelma and Louise.

Buzz: Well, I think any cute girl most likely gets the Heff Seal of Approval. Not like that's a bad thing.

Milk: Part of that "built" had to do with the specific shape of 1950s undergarments. Some of those bras and girdles were amazing constructs.

Heff: Well, alrighty then!

Aunty: That breathless thing, where did that come from? Highly irritating.
