this song draws upon the southern tradition in a very big way -esp. Lynard Skynard and the Allmans in its structure and general sound. flirtin with disaster isnt distinctly southern without danny joes accent.
There was a ton of cross polination at this time - people out of .38 special (guitarist who quit architecture school at GA tech to play) and the drummer from Mothers FInest, a helluva band mostly famous in Georgia) joined molly hatchet. I sort of knew the first MH incarnation of dave and steve and bruce...mostly because their manager, Pat Armstrong, lived four doors down from me while i was in school in Macon. Interestingly, MH got the attention of one ronnie van zandt (Lynard skynard) and had planned to record MH under his label -but it never happened because right around that time came the infamous plane crash.
I used to see them at the H and H soul food kitchen which was started by the cooks who went on the road with the allman bros. Capricorn Records was right down the road youd see record co. big shots in there all the time...i had a boyfriend that was at Cap but it didnt last long as he was too old for me. My room mate was dating the road manager from Mothers finest so this was a time where lots of music stuff was incubating. MH moved to jacksonville of all places.
there was a famous bar in Macon, Grants lounge where lots of big southern rock cycled through -though most of the good stuff happened before i was there (1977-1981)

Boxer: Seems to me a lot of rock stars suffer from faltering fashion. Nature of the biz. Either you're crazy over the top or you're . . . not.
Pam: Two cars in my wish list pipeline: 1969 El Camino SS and a 1978 Pontiac Firebird.
Pirate: My whole life, it seems, revolves around pining away for musical interludes.
Chickory: And we haven't even TOUCHED on Blackfoot :o) Bet you have some awesome memories, grrrrrrl.
Long live Southern Rock!
Frank passed ??? NO !!! That man was responsible for MANY a kick ass rock album cover, as well as MANY fantasy posters !
And you just gained MAJOR points with Heff posting the Molly Hatchet.
See ya in "Jukin' City" !
Trooper: I hope Neil Young will remember . . .
Heff: You didn't know? Yeah, a couple days ago. He was awesome.
