What's in a Name

pity this busy monster, manunkind,

not. Progress is a comfortable disease:
your victim (death and life safely beyond)

plays with the bigness of his littleness
--electrons deify one razorblade
into a mountainrange; lenses extend
unwish through curving wherewhen till unwish
returns on its unself.
A world of made
is not a world of born--pity poor flesh

and trees, poor stars and stones, but never this
fine specimen of hypermagical

ultraomnipotence. We doctors know

a hopeless case if--listen: there's a hell
of a good universe next door; let's go

E. E. Cummings

Seriously, though?
Planet Kepler-22b?
Come on, Party People, we can think up a better name than that.

  1. LOL. I suspect there is a process by which it can be renamed eventually. Hope so, anyway.

The 72 degrees Farhenheit average temperature is remarkable. If true.

  2. Troll: Which is why my suggestion is Planet Florida. Although, how we can know anything from 600 light years away is beyond me, but this is a fabulous discovery regardless.

  3. Once Saturn was used, there really weren't any other cool planet names.

But for reals? Planet Kepler 22B??

I think we are finding wayyyy too many planets out there. There is a certain lack of excitement from these dudes.

  4. Boxer: I want evidence of life NOW!

Czar: Good one. What's that in Greek, I wonder?

  11. I have mixed emotions about all of this. I think the technology is fabulous. The need to know if 22b is habitable because we may be blowing ourselves up is a big question in my mind. How about re-directing that technology into NOT blowing ourselves up? Space stuff used to scare the crap out of me.
