I like him considerably more than Ron Paul. And not just because his voice doesn't sound like Minnie Mouse. Unlike Paul, he's shown he can WIN State-Wide in a democrat-leaning State against very well-funded Democrat opponents.
He's not a life-long pol, having spent many years building a successful construction bidness. And, again unlike Paul, he has Executive Branch experience.
He'd be wise to de-emphasize drug reform and focus on his record of competence and accomplishment as a Bidnessman and Governor.
That doesn't mean he should abandon his carefully reasoned stance on that. Just don't make it a central point-of-emphasis. Because then the media will make that his ONLY point-of-emphasis.
My sources say that the democrats are VERY afraid of running against a libertarian-leaning Republican in 2012. And he's certainly a better candidate than Minnie Mouse.
Troll: You're spot on about the drug wars issue. Most people think that just because you support an end to the war on drugs that you support drug use. Nothing is further from the truth but trying to get the Sheeple to accept a nuanced political argument is near impossible. We so like our bromides neatly packaged, as both our past president and our current one prove.

the war on drugs is a miserable failure. especially since the CIA has been caught red handed behind some of the big cartels. i know pot isnt legal cause you can do it yourself therefore no tax revenue. or who knows at the rate these guys are going they will find a way. he had me at i believe in the constitution and personal responsibility. im worried though as i encounter attitudes from people i thought i knew that include "what can big G do for me"

Boxer: New Mexico has always been a state that runs 2:1 Democrat. For the last ten years or so, the median household income for a family of four hasn't veered much up or down from $37,000, consistently making us the sixth or seventh lowest state in terms of income in the union. Our poverty rate hovers at nearly 19 percent, the third highest in the country. We regularly end up in the Top 10 of so many Worst Of lists that that's our only Best Of.
We are home to a sprinkling of super rich that, as far as I can see, do little other than swan about various new age "healing" centers and raise money for the symphony. A good chunk of our middle classes works for the government (the Labs, the Air Force, the universities). That Johnson was elected in this environment was a total, complete surprise to everyone.
While the problems in this state were and are certainly too huge for any one man to fix, Johnson planted the idea in a lot of people's heads that maybe, just maybe, government was the problem, not the solution.
Then we went and elected Bill Richardson and now we're right back where we started.
Fishy: Well, I'm not one to trust any politician of any party for any reason. And I'm fully aware of what can happen to good people around all that power. But, yes, I'd endorse Gary Johnson in a heartbeat.
He is too real and true to get elected. That's all I have to say. I thought I elected a real and true man and he chose the worst possible cabinet in the history of this country.
Huckleberry: You got it, chica. Good men can't serve because the system as it is set up works against them doing so with honesty and integrity. If politics, as some pragmatists will tell you, is the art of compromise, what is it we're compromising? Liberty.
I will have to do some research on this dude. There are a couple of things I don't agree with him on, but they aren't deal breakers.

I will have to check him out more too. I agree with MRM - there are some things I don't necessarily agree with, but definitely not deal breakers.
